Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, (AKUH,K) started operations in 1985, as
an integrated, health care delivery component of Aga Khan University (AKU). It
is a philanthropic, not-for-profit, private teaching institution committed to
providing the best possible option for diagnosis of disease and team management
of patient care. AKUH's multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and care ensures
a continuum of safe and high-quality care for patients – all services under one
roof. ,
AKHS
is one of three agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that support
activities in the field of health, the others being the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF),
and the Aga Khan University (AKU). It works closely with both of these agencies
on planning, training, and resource development and with the Aga Khan Education
Services and the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services on the integration of
health issues into specific projects. 
Civil Hospital,
Karachi is a 1670-bed tertiary care public hospital that
imparts both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and
training. It is one of the teaching hospitals affiliated with
Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). The department of
surgery comprises six general surgical units besides the
specialties of neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, orthopedic
surgery, urology, vascular surgery, maxillo-facial surgery and
plastic surgery. All units function independently.
